    Default Weekly meet up 10-08-23

By the time we met at our first boat ramp around 10:30 , it was already around seventy degrees and very little wind . The temp made it to 79 and the wind picked up a little, but not bad .
We fished our regular locations until we got to our third boat ramp and since it was busy with folks loading and unloading, we went about 100 yards up from the ramp and started fishing while the boats cleared out . The water is about six feet low leaving an easy edge to walk along the shore .
That turned out to be a good move as we both started catching gills fairly regular.
I think I went four fish on four casts once at our first stop.
I kept drifting farther away down the bank when the bites let up and would get into a few with each stop . I’d move about twenty feet with each move .
I ended up with a total of 24 catches including several redbreast hybrids , four yellow perch , and one monster of a shellcracker. Definitely my biggest this year . Most of the gills were in the 6-7” size .
Most were caught on handtied jigs except for the yellow perch , I caught them on a micro spinner .
Rods used were 6’3” Abu Garcia MB3 and 6’ UL AG MB3 . A Shimano Soare XR c2000sspg on the 6’3” and a Soare XR 500sspg on the UL 6’ . 2# Floroclear is the only line I used .
My fishing buddy ended up with twenty including a couple of shellcrackers he thought were nice until I caught mine .
A beautiful fall day to be out .

Wow, that redear is a toad. Did you weigh or measure it? When they get that size they really make a reel scream.
