    Default Weekly Meetup 9-28-23

Met up with my fishing buddy at the boat ramp this morning to a cool windy day .
Mid sixties and overcast . The sun eventually came and and it warmed into the low to mid seventies , but the wind stayed .
    I fished my Abu Garcia MB3 rods , a 6’3” travel light , a 6’3” UL , and my 6’ UL .
I started off with a 1/32 Waspi Super jig and Trout Magnet , hoping it would help in the wind . I still had trouble feeling the jig , but I caught fish !
When switched to lighter hand ties and Mini Trout Magnets, my catches went up .
Everything was small today but a lot of fun ! I had one spotted bass about a foot long that gave a good battle, in spite of only having one eye and most of its tail looked like it’d been fanning on bed .
Ended up with a total of sixty five fish . My buddy caught 29 . If we’d stayed another thirty minutes I think we could have broken a hundred.
I’m going to show a few of the more colorful ones

Some pretty little fellers. It’s been raining a lot here making work a pest but nothing we can’t live with. I hope to get some like your little friends come Saturday or so, maybe a little salt in my diet though.

I hear you about the salt. I have been getting a real itch to try a little salt water fishing. No boat so I’m a rock bum, but a lot of stuff running right now on the Jersey coast at Manasquan and Point Pleasant. Problem is no “inshore” tackle. I will need to do some research and suggestions this winter.

PS I have a friend that tells me the snapper blues and small stripers have been dynamite.

And snapper blues fight like crazy on light tackle! They kept us busy when I was a kid. I’m hoping for a good flounder for the box.

Plenty of the little post-spawn fingerling for sure, Gill. Nice outing!
