lady fish make tarpon seem like childs play , lb. for lb. not sure if anything salty can jump higher or faster or as many times as one ...
they rival sockeye in the how high can you get and just amaze me at how vigorous they are on the hook ....
good stuff for sure
K A B O O M for sure

it is relative you know , ladyfish for their size are stupid big air pups ...
now mind you this , lb. for lb. nothing touches a sockeye salmon ...
some large fish pull real hard and them jacks in the short water are bullies ....
but sockeyes / reds are in a league of their own.
the power and big air at the same time and flat out ridiculous speeds they hit quickly ...
with what seems almost as an endless steam to get away ....
make it well known as combat fishin in Alaska ....
good stuff up that way , the sockeye runs are just terribly hardcore angling
them fish destroy tackle and anglers pretty often ...seen it myself more than once ...
medium heavy 7 foot one pc . ugly stik with 17 lb. test on a penn open faced was my weapon of choice and still is ....
might think about heavier line though , I was sort of playing with them mostly

Ketchn, this is probably as close as I’ll ever get to sockeye fishing but I e heard tales of them. Hangin around the clay target clubs you meet all kinds of folks, and some of them do the dream trips once or twice a year. I’m glad they do so we can hear of them. I talked with one gent that takes his sons, 3 or 4 of them, to Argentina and Central America to shoot dove every year with an outfitter. Gotta be pricey but what a trip. Lots of shells burned through in a day and they stay for four or five. A week fishing in Canada would also be a good trip.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
my friend before you can't make that trip you need to , it's like every drop of water in Alaska has a fish in it ....
those sockeye runs are difficult to put into words , watching folks get a fish whipping is stupid good stuff....
literally face slapped as they went by over their shoulder leaving the scene of the crime type stuff ....
spun around in the creek and lassoed up with the line as they run 4 circles around them ankles and then take off type things !
one launched so hard and fast out of the water at a diagonal type thing and hit the guy across the creek right in his jewels doing about 100 mph , flat out folded him up like a lawn chair , not kidding ...
labor day boat ramps are nada , the red run and the tourists after them is the stuff .....
my first ever hook up with one was not forgotten as it drug me off my feet and the gravel bar into the water ...
and my bud was chasing it with a landing net and it finally jumped OVER him and landed on the gravel bar ....
that stype tuff goes on thru out a visit to a sockeye run , it is by far the best of the best on fire ketchn I ever seen ....
heck some folks show up with light tackle and them fish will flat BLOW up a cheap reel right in your hands ,,,,seen that a time or 2 as well ....
coupled with a bear chase or 2 in the mix and to be sure ya won't forget that action I promise bro ....
