A creek picture .
There isn’t anything better than catching creek fish !
Especially redbreast , no matter the size .
I started fishing this overcast morning at lake McIntosh . Temps were in the mid Seventies with little wind . A nice morning.
But a guy and his kid were about ten steps ahead of me stepping onto the big dock and they headed straight to my favorite spot on the end as I stood at the boat ramp waiting to see where they went . Hard to get upset over a guy taking his kid fishing .
So I took a right headed to the small dock and a guy with a baitcaster in his hand beat me to my second spot to fish .
After a few casts he left and I got on the small dock and in about forty five minutes I caught nine micro warmouths and green sunfish.
I’ll post a couple of these in the micro picture thread .
I decided to leave and check out the old mill creek .
I found the creek about as low as I’d seen it this year , but I had the place to myself for almost an hour.
I was fishing my tiny rabbit fur jig tied on a size 12 hook with a tungsten bead .
I lost that jig on the bottom as I twitched it downstream a crease . But not before I’d caught seven of the seventeen fish I caught at the creek .
Counting these seven ,the nine I caught at the lake and the fish I caught my last couple of trips , I counted over 26 fish I’d caught on that single jig . And it’d still be catching fish if I hadn’t lost it .
At the creek I caught twelve beautiful redbreast , two shell crackers , two small bass , and a strange rounded looking bluegill .
The first redbreast I caught , almost took the rod out of my hand .
The creek fish fight double their size especially the redbreast and shellcracker.
The sun came out around noon , but by then I’d worked most the small area at the creek that’s fishable.
A fun morning with my 5’6” St Croix Premier ULF2 and Shimano Soare XR 500spg and 2# line .
Ain’t nothing better, IMO !

Pretty fish. Very few places here that have them.

What a beautiful place, love the trees.
I wish we had some shade to hide from the sun.
Keep up the good work, love the pictures.

Seems your neck of the woods carry some amazing variety of sunfishes, Gill. I wouldn't be surprised you'd hook into a long-eared( considered the most colorful of all) or a pumpkinseed. Oh and what a fishing location at that!!

When they first impounded Lake McIntosh, I used to catch pumpkinseeds around the dock I fished today .
There have to be some still out there in those over 600 acres somewhere.
This fall I’ll be fishing with the boat , hopefully I can locate some .
We do a have a variety around here .

That is awesome, and as mentioned beautiful setting, when the leaves change that's gonna look like a Norman Rockwell painting

I agree with everyone so far, that’s a great place to fish. Another one of the perks we get. You caught a bunch of fish too, glad to hear that neither of us was bored this weekend. Good thing you have the recipe for the jig, I’m sure you’ll be tying more.
