    Default Pre storm

My queen is gonna be stuck with me tomorrow and probably the day after so I figured I’d better get out while I could. Winds still calm and river traffic low, mostly folks taking their boats from the slips and putting them on the trailers. This was from my backyard, would’ve been great reflected off of some water.

I started out a little slow and tried hard to get something figured out but try as I might it wasn’t to be. So after catching a few and having a catfish give me a hard time I went to an area I haven’t fished in a year or more. I did get this fella just before the move. I don’t get many of these, especially small ones.

But to the bulk of the day, the word for today was Redbreasted Sunfish. They must be on the beds cuz I caught three of those to one of anything else. Big ones measuring 8” and little ones barely three, they all wanted what I had. Several caught me nappin and tried to get the rod away from me. Dumb old me didn’t take a pic of one today and I had dozens to choose from. I’m confident my catch was over 50 fish and I fished about six hours. Being in the river the wind was starting to get busy but not enough to bother me. Did I say I like fishing during the week? There was no one out to speak of, and those that were out were cordial and friendly. I hooked up onetime and knew it was something different. I got him from behind the brush and pointed the tm to open water, thinking I had whatever it was on better terms now. Then a LMB about as big around as my forearm jumped and took aim, spitting my little jig back at me. It took a couple of more hours for that to happen again but the beetle spin in black that this one hit got a better bite and we got to meet.

He didn’t come easy and tried all the tricks but the lightning rod got another notch in the handle. Been catching surprise fish on that rod for over ten years, one of my favorites and it throws the beetle spin just fine. I looked at the clock, knowing it was later than I normally stay, and saw it was two o’clock. I figured noon or so, I’d better call mom and get to the house. I’m sure enjoying the vacation and the peace and quiet was a welcome change. This storm and its winds get past I’ll be back out seeing who’s left. Thanks for coming along, hope to see you out soon. Til then……Skeet.

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a bright orange sky! Good pics and catches and glad you got out before the storm. Be safe, prayers sent for you and everyone in storms path.
