I don’t change braid on my jig poles until it fades . Mono on my ultralight rigs gets changed when it gets too much memory.

Same here. If the 10-15# test braid I use with light jigs shows wear, I replace the casting distance plus 5 yds. Plastic line (mono or f/c) backing is not an issue - line fray and sun damage is. But then again I catch mostly pannies with a few bass and picks in between and rarely in rocky areas.

as often as I think I need to and sometimes for sure not quickly enough as well ....
but I run a really high number of rods and often let one lay when the line isnt up to spex till I really want to use it again ...
my busy rods get new line about once a month or so ,,,,,and if my line feels nicked knotted or rough I peel off some till it feels nice again ....
most of my equipment gets a for sure right real beat down in the capturing of fish dept. , My agenda is to hammer the fisheez and my rod and reel best keep up or it's going down ....
after a bass or a catfish of any decent size and the jig is in past its teeth area , it is auto retie most of the time ....they can chew off 6 lb test mono pretty easily and often ruin it right by the jig after a hand to hand battle ...
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whalesJUNGLEJIMJIGS LIKED above posthdhntr thanked you for this post
I don't change it out that often but will cut off a foot or two if it tangles too much or I'm on a role ketchn. On the other hand IF I'm on same roll and ketchn one after another which happens will check the knot and if line is frayed cut and retie but only if it's obvious otherwise too busy ketchn.
check my line over winter when I do reel maintenance and how much is on each spool. Use a variety of rods so switch around reels to match what I want. Started to use my Sam Heaton SS 7 foot UL for most part as it is fun. Or my 10 foot st croix medium when I need length. only expensive rod I have and it was because a buddy was getting rid of stuff. shimano reel on it was full of braid which I kept on but hated so changed it to my 6 lb Mr crappie hi vis which is my go to line or 4 lb. using it more after I swapped.
Thanks everyone for your comments. Sun can weaken your line quickly. I put new line on my reels for a trip out to California with Sonny and sun was brutal. After just a few days I started getting break offs regularly and line would break with just a small tug. Stripped a good amount off and it still broke. Had to put fresh line on after just a few days. Lose a few good fish to break offs will get your attention. Better off changing line regularly and check it often and you don't need to worry as much when the big one does hit.
I use mainly mono and change once a year on all reels .

Probably more often than needed, old habit that is harder to break than any line I have replaced
My motto is- The cheaper the line, the more often I change it. Braid stays on until it fades or every 3-6 months.
A different thought, fade. Almost all of my rods that I use a lot has Varivas braid and some of it doesn’t have the color that it came with. I haven’t noticed the strength going away with the color on any but one. I think the fade is more from water and use as I don’t store my rods in the boat unless I’m fishin the next day. More than that and they’re in the shop in their racks. What I have noticed is the copolymer leader that turns to a pigs tail when I stress it hard snatching a jig back out of a bush or something. Might be fluorocarbon, dunno. I do know that my 4lb mono leaders do better for me than most anything else.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Panfish jigging rods - mono up to 3 times a year due to the 1000's size reels. Also because I lose a lot of jigs and line
Slip- float rods - reel size 2500, 1 once every year or two "mono"
