I just had to do something different today. I was beginning to fall into the one lake/one lure rut and had to go someplace I hadn’t been to since I had my bass boat, I think. It’s a good ride to get there and we hit it perfect. Nino was all in when I talked to him and with everything done we were on the water just after seven. Flat calm and zero boat traffic other than the two that were at the ramp when we pulled out and the temps were high seventies. Almost cool scootin along with the wind in our hair.

My expectations were high as my last time here was very good. We both pitched our usual stuff but today Nino had on a stonefly looking black bug that turned the tables from last week. He had like 10 to my 2. My first one looked a bit beat up and maybe had some parasites on him but he was stout and fought like he meant it.

One very bright spot on the day was all the juvenile crappie we caught. Recent spawns have been good and these guys we got were the proof. Very dark colors from the local water made em very different. Then this guy had to show up and smoke the little jig. If you look close you can see how deep the jig is in his mouth. He was less than six inches.

All the next hour we were both busy these guys hit hard for both of us. Nino was setting the hook on hits that didn’t materialize and fussin about it all the time. These fish were active. I picked up a couple that were above average for anywhere I fish.

That Warmouth with the beat up tail was a genuine stud. Been a while since I got one like that. Then the smalls started showing up and we got a bunch, more than I counted. Here’s a few.

And a good crappie to finish the day. We ran out of time and the weather wasn’t looking good.

He was about eleven inches and if we’d gotten more like him I’d be having fish for dinner. This was a good refresher for me and now Nino is ready to get his boat back in action so he can go back while I work. Dang it! Hope y’all enjoyed the post, this was one of the better ones even if the fish weren’t giants. We’ll go back again soon. Til I see you next time……Skeet.
