I bet it was neat to bring 2 to the bank. Thanks for taking us along.
Been awhile since I fished this small lake since it doesn't have any shade but yesterday was cloudy so decided to try fishing for bass. Fished for them for almost two hours without a bite and out of desperation reached for the ultralight to get the skunk off. Nothing close so started casting to deeper water. Finally get bit and hook the biggest gill I ever caught from this lake, a 9" gill. After that it got really interesting. Whenever I hooked a gill it would get attacked by bass, seen as many as three chasing the hooked gills and they were taking them right at the bank. Would let them swim off to swallow them but only got the #10 hook in one before it threw it off. These were all bass in the 3-4# range, lot's of fun just watching them. Then I hooked a small bass about 6 inches long which jumped a few times and caught the attention of one of it's larger kin who took it right at the bank. Let it run with it and since it was headed for a brush pile set hook early and bass went airborne with the smaller bass now tethered to the line sliding up to the float. Somehow the little hook got stuck in the bigger fish corner of the mouth. Got both in after a couple minutes. First time catching two bass at one time, although it was unconventional. Bigger bass weighed 3.40 # and both bass were released , even the little bass darted away even though it was beat up a little. Only caught one bass but it was a lot of fun.

Now that takes skill and patience. Good job Jim. Ya gotta wonder if there isn’t a bait that you could get them to hit or if it was the one in distress that fired em up. Only ever had that happen once but it happened three times the same day and never got a hook into the bass. Extra high on the coolness scale.

The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
strange how a stressed out losing it's mind bluegill will draw in a big bass quickly and yet a lure with somewhat similar action will be ignored , me thinks that there lateral line and the impulses off the frantic fish send out the let's eat signal out loud and clear .
congrats sir and KABOOM

Unfortunately, I threw everything at them the first two hours and had no imitations that had the action like those hooked gills darting frantically that made those bass turn on. They were so intent on eating those gills that they paid no attention to me. They would chase the gills until they were totally wore out inches away but wouldn't eat them. If they darted away they would get hammered again. It's been happening to me since April at least a couple dozen times. I've managed to catch three now on my ultralight. First back in May with a 10.23# from another lake, an 8.14# from that same lake on July 18 and now this one. Seems I can only catch big fish on my ultralight.
Nice catch! Had that happen a lot fishing at Nickajack for spawning bluegill. Used to fish a spot at the VFW Lake that had a lot of water snakes. Water was clear and bluegill mingling all around. Snakes paid no attention to them. But if I hooked one they would immediately attack it.
