I perfer eating gills over crappie. Gills meat is more firm in my opinion.

black crappie and bream both have much firmer meat than white crappie and my wife really likes bluegill .
those were donated to the lake owner's freezer , but to be sure we would eat them that size if we were on a meat haul for our freezer too...
