    Default Beetlespins

Went out again yesterday. A black beetlespin was once again the lure of choice.

Brought in another 9 huge bluegills, and a 4 inch bass.

Unfortunately, the trees kept catching my lures, which leads me to my next question:

Do they sell beetlespin spinners without the jigs or bodies? I have tons of bodies, I can buy jigs in bulk, but I need the actual spinner blade part.

Don’t buy any of the cheap no name ones off Amazon . The wire is too thick .
My favorite are Hilderbrandt , but they are harder to find and cost more than the others .
I can get the Betts beetlespin off Amazon for $1.99 . I usually swap out the jigs and bodies .
Bass Pro Shop , Cabelas do sell the spinners only in a two pack and seem to be the best ones for the money .
Just found some at Barlows . Can’t vouch for the quality , but the price is good .
It seems I’ve ordered from them before , but forgot . Probably jig/fly tying supplies .
I ordered a few . I’ll post about them when they get to me .

It’s funny you mentioned beetlespins , I used a size 0 today to catch a few small bluegills and a few crappies . I used the spinner with a Trout Magnet jighead and a Bobby Garland Itty Bit Swim’r .

I have a bunch in my box that I bought when I found em, god only knows where. I too need some of the tiniest ones and to get rid of some of what I have. I bought some with the heavy wire and didn’t like em either. Whoever made em didn’t do a very good job with the bending jig.

Something to watch is amazon. Last year i stocked up my beetle spin box and was finding them for less than $1 on there for all sizes (legit johnson ones). 4 times they even sent me a box of 12 instead of individual i ordered. Had no idea what to do when 48 beetle spins showed up one day, amazon said keep them... I started tossing them in packages when people bought things off me.

I bought some wire forms from Barlows. They are formed except for the loops that attach the blade and the jig. Use wire bending tools to cut to length and then form the loops. Able to make them smaller so blade is closer.

Some buy regulars and then remove the clip portion that secures the jig. They say this allows the lure to swim faster without flopping over sideways or spinning about. That the extra wire creates drag in the water and does that to it. They claim you will catch more fish better without a clip, just a small loop.

Good luck and let us know how things turned out for you.
Maybe they will bite this one……

What you are looking for is called a Jig Spinner. Jann's Netcraft sells high end Hildenbrandt and cheap ones that come 10 to a bag. The cheap ones work just fine.

Jann's Netcraft: Jig Spinner Form with Colorado Blade, Lure Making | Jann's Netcraft

Modify them like shown in my pictures below. That keeper latch creates drag off the center line of the lure, which causes the lure to roll to one side on the smaller weight jigs. The faster you crank, the more drag you get, the more it rolls. Also this mod makes them snag way less weeds. This is how I do it, but I use Charlie Brewer Slider 1" Grubs instead of Beetle Spin bodies.

Thanks! Which size do you use? It seems there are a number of choices.

Above is way easier than what I do.

    Look for their smallest size.
