    Default All This Braid Talk.

Been reading Gills post about braid and a couple of days back I took the Presso reel off the Lunakia that had 3# test Twitch Master nylon. Replaced reel with Daiwa Ballistic FW 1000 reel spooled with Infinity PE #0.2. Which breaks at 5.6 pounds and has a diameter of 0.076mm. This line has been on this reel for 3 years. Headed out to Bald Knob fully expecting not to even get a hit. Past couple of weeks that is the way it has been out there off the fishing pier. Started casting a 1.5 gram Decoy Aji Drive jig head dressed with a Sow Bug colored Trout Magnet. Of course using this line you feel everything. On my 8th cast a shell cracker knocked the fire out of it. The feel and fight using the Infinity PE line on the Lunakia 63 is just off the charts good. It took 20 more casts before I got the second shell cracker. That would be all the fish, and bites I had this morning. My boat is about 6 weeks from being done. I really am anxious to get out on this lake and get on the hunt for these shell cracker. I am limited fishing on the pier. Life is good!

    Regards

    Nice fish !
The increase in sensitivity is definitely a perk using braid .
I’ve had six inch bluegill feel like a nine inch shellcracker. You feel every swish of tail and every turn.
Longer casts are a bonus too .
Only downside is having to use a leader . But I’ve not had any issues with my leaders .
I use a four pound test leader about 6-8’ so if I get hung up , it usually breaks at the knot on my jig .

Thanks….I’ve got 3 reels spooled up with braid. But 2 are not UL. I have the Varivas Double Cross in the 9.6# test on 2 reels to fish the D2 jigs for trout. I used the Infinity last fall when trout got finicky and would just nip at the Trout Magnet. I was using nylon line and was missing way too many fish. Put the braid reel on and put a stop to that real quick. Of course I can no longer see the Infinity unless the lighting is just right. It has orange in it but the stuff is so fine I just can’t keep a constant lock on it with my eyes now.

    Regards

Thanks Dave. Yeah I’m chomping at the bit. Bank fishing opportunities around here are few and far between.

Good lookin fish Randy. I know and live for that smack you spoke of. There’s no mistake of what just hit. Glad you got a couple of fish and a smile out of the trip. Just waiting to hear that you’re on the way to pick up the new ride, it’s a tough wait for you.

I hear you Alpha, the part about docks and banks (accessible ones) are hard to come by. And when they do they're usually overcrowded or littered with uncaring fisherman junks. Not owning a boat or any time soon I've found myself more and more becoming a opportunistic angler fishing when and where I can just to stay in the hobby I love. Being a multi species junkie who doesn't mind what's biting hot at the moment also help this mindset. Nice catches by the way!

LV, I’m partial to what’s biting too. I’ve even thought of breaking out the green fish gear. That might be weird though.
