Default Took the wrong rod .

I should have known better. But after getting good casting results out of my 6’6” St Croix light action rods yesterday, I took three of them with me to lake McIntosh this morning.
All I’ve been catching lately are small fish and the long light action rods were an overmatch for the little guys .
Not only were they a little too much rod , the sensitivity wasn’t there . I usually use these rods for float n jig , and float n fly fishing . And they are great for that , but for swimming tiny jigs , I had trouble feeling anything on my line .
After catching four little ones, I swapped out the Shimano Soare c2000spg reel to one of my 5’6” St Croix Triumph travel rod.
I was surprised I was getting the same distance casting with the shorter rod and could feel when the little guys would grab my jig .
I caught five more fish and decided to check out the creek below the lake dam .
I had a chance to speak with the County Marshal about the legality of fishing below the dam because I had heard conflicting information about fishing down there .
I was told to stay below the fence and I was ok . He also said it was easy to get to .
What I found was a short area between the fenced area and a private property sign .
The banks were high ( not good for 2# line) and the trees were decorated with floats and lures . Before I left , I made a donation of a micro spinner . .
I fished for about an hour , with an assortment of lures and had one little tap on a Bobby Garland Itty bit Swim’r . The hike back out was about 300 yards at a challenging grade for this 72 year old .
I won’t be visiting that creek again anytime soon.
My next trip I’ll be taking a couple of my shorter UL rods too.
I don’t mind catching little guys , but I prefer to catch them on equipment that matches the fish .

Beats a skunk any day plus you got the low down on the creek area.

Cute little fish. Glad the spillway is now an answered question. Places like that always nag at me til I find out for sure. A good trip and another day better than mine.
