Default Charlie Brewer 1” vs Trout Magnet

Did a short early morning trip today. Caught approx. 30 fish - mostly crappie with some shellcracker, bass, and small catfish mixed in.

Observed that all bites came twitching the Trout Magnet close to the bottom. Had recently purchased Charlie Brewer 1” sliders but got zero bites on it. Retrieve was a slow roll, and some times slow roll + twitching. It is supposed to be a good bait. So I am not sure what I was doing wrong.

How did you y’all fish the Charlie Brewer 1” sliders?

Btw… having a go at bfs these days. Name: IMG_7677.jpg

Need a more limber rod though.

Gotta love the ol’ trout magnet. One of my go to baits.

My thoughts are that sometimes fish want activity or flash but others not a bit. My sliders usually come back without a tail at some point.

njones: the TM has become my confidence bait. I’ve caught everything in my local waters on it.

Tim: I guess I got to keep trying the Charlie Brewer. One day I’ll get bit on it.

I've caught fish using both and last weekend it was the Charlie Brewers with chartreuse tail catching. My buddy had the tail bit off on his black/chartreuse Charlie Brewer. They like the paddle tails especially when swimming or on the fall.

The Slider used to be my number one plastic bait and I still use them but other bait companies have come out with small offerings including Trout Magnet and Bobby Garland .
I take some of each with me in a my favorite colors because you never know what the fish are going to want .
My favorite Slider has always been the 1 1/2” smoke glitter , which I trim the first couple of rings off the front to make it 1” .
I did this for years before the 1” version came out . I also color the tail chartreuse.
The Slider bodies weigh a little more than the others which can add a little more distance to your casts .

Yesterday I fished the Slider 1" Grub on a modified beetle spin setup. No bluegill, but just about everything else. I had bluegill follow the Slider Grub and nip at the tail, but no commitments from any of them! Below are a few of the pictures from the 1" grub.

Just fyi, and not hijacking, but while we’re talking about 1” offerings I wanted to mention that southern pro baits makes 1” tubes that are in the right colors and not expensive. Look em up if they might fit the bill for ya.
