Default Fishing the short rod again

Took off to lake McIntosh again this morning. It was sunny and 80 degrees with a light breeze when I got there , the car said it was 99 in the parking lot when I left around 12:45 .
I took two old St Croix UL’s today , A 5’6” Triumph ULF paired with an old Shimano Symetre 500 reel , and a 5’ SC Triumph ULM paired with a new model Sahara 500 .
The 5’6” is a two piece rod and is nowhere near a fast action . It’s almost a parabolic bend when a fish is on it . It has a little wiggle after a cast that costs a little distance over the newer model SC Premier and Avid 5’6” UL’s .
But a fun rod to catch fish on . It reminds me of my Iprimi XXUL .
I fished it for almost an hour and swapped to the five footer .
I was fishing a Black Bobby Garland Itty Bit Swim’r on a size 12 streamer hook and tungsten bead .
I caught 8 gills and a couple of tiny crappies before switching to my micro spinner out of desperation to get a bite . Fishing was slower than last time .
I figured why not a change for my last few minutes.
My first cast , I feel a thump, raised the rod to set and immediately a nice UL bass jumps .
I’m thinking walk off homer .
The bass , because of the teeth I felt when I lipped it , may be a shoal bass , which this lake has a population of .
The short rods are just fun rods for swimming jigs . Especially from the bank filled with trees . This is the only shady spot available for shoreline fishing.
    Fun couple of hours .
    Best of the day .

Yep , going have to start getting up earlier and get out there before it gets too hot .
Big heat wave from the west is moving in for a few days .
The shaded area was better on me but I caught more while standing in the open areas .

Nice catches. Looks like a great place to fish. I’m headed to the White River tomorrow to meet up with my nephew. He is coming out from TN with his boat and wants me to fish with him on Friday. I just don’t think that’s gonna happen for me. Suppose to be over 100 degrees ambient temp for next 4 days. I told him I didn’t think it would be a good idea for him to be out in that heat either. I’ll make some casts from the bank which is about 3 minutes from the AbnB I’m staying at. Me and the heat just don’t get along anymore.?

Upper 90’s here for the next four days . I’m thinking if I can get out there by 9am, I should be able to stand it for a couple of hours.
May have to fish the town pond . One side of it is shaded until after about 1pm .

looks fun , one thing for certain it aint so fun to roast like a chicken in the oven anymore ....used to be ok with it to some high degrees, but to be sure my tolerance levels have dropped significantly in the last few years ...

I too can’t take the heat either. I used to frame houses and such in boots and a pair of shorts and little else. Besides scaring the little kids seeing me at my age dressed like that I couldn’t be in the heat for ten hours a day like I did then. Have to replan trips around it. That sure is a pretty place to fish.
