    Default After the Spawn

I fish a deep water reservoir for bluegills or shell crackers, after the spawn I really have a hard time finding them.

I can find them on beds fairly easy but once they leave their beds I'm lost?

Do they stay in the general area of the beds just out deeper?

    Thanks for any advise,
    Steve

some spots here the big ones go really deep in the summer months , like flat out on the bottom in brushy areas ....
one spot here they sit up on the surface at night under lights in really deep water too ....
not sure there but they vacate the beds for the most part after the first spawn here and return in lower numbers off and on thru out the summer .....
I would tend to think they are on the bottom there at the base of some steep drop offs , drop shot a worm to them along those fast drop offs to the bottom of the drop off.....my guess ...

I believe that’s as good as I could say also. Kinda smoke and mirrors sometimes. Just gotta keep after em and pay attention to the details.

I fished Dale Hollow and Center Hill lakes. In summer you head to the bluffs and find them hanging down next to the bluffs in 30-40 feet of water. A better solution might be to hit the waters slightly before sunrise and about 2 hours before sundown. They will usually move up shallow to feed during those times.

Do you think they travel far from bedding areas? I know they spawn in the sand/gravel areas on flats but the bluffs like your saying are not real close to the spawning areas.

They will travel as far as need be to find suitable waters and structure. It’s really hard to say…
