    Default One last trip

Before I go back to the grind tomorrow. Things weren’t great but I did manage a few crappie before they threw the switch and quit. Caught 18 and put 5 gooduns s in the cooler. Break off was the words of the day. I retied more today than any day in recent past. Two fish just plain broke me off, and I found more junk on the bottom than I can remember ever finding before. Goes that way sometimes but it’s frustrating. So with the crappie not wanting to play anymore and I still had time, I went in search of. I’ve found some gills on this one bank before, so I gave it a try. Not many casts into it I get a solid hit, set the hook and the line comes tight. For about a count of two, then this Nanofil parted about halfway between me and the fish. I’m officially over this stuff. There’s nothing better for casting but it just doesn’t hold up. As you can imagine, I said some bad words. I went to another rod with tougher line and caught 5 or 6 gills, a couple of which were picture worthy. After breaking off a couple of times I’d had enough and the wind was picking up, so I went to someplace I thought might be out of the wind. Wrong again. I pulled 5 short crappie out of a downed tree and you guessed it, got hung up again. MAN!! I ran back most of the way to where I started and worked a shoreline that I’d had my eye on for a while now. A nice redbreast and a couple of short bass and talked with a man that I’ve seen before. Come to find out that he’s 83 and still fishing by himself, and hadn’t turned a fish yet today. I thought about it a minute and pulled up alongside and sent the 5 in my cooler home for his dinner. I was gonna set em free but everything for a reason. Now I was hungry and the sun was high along with the wind………Time for the house. Made a date for lunch with my queen and put it on the trailer, it just turned over twelve o’clock. It was a good morning fishwise and relaxing was OK too. Here’s a couple of the gills, I took no crappie pics, and I hope I get to see y’all out soon. Til then…..Skeet.

And I thought that last one was gonna break the ten inch mark but still came up short. I’m still trying.

Some good catches. Aggravating about line breaking. Good man donating your catch the to the gentleman. I’m sure he appreciates it.

Silverside, I’m hoping you get out soon. The attitude improvement is wonderful. I seldom bring any home but thoroughly enjoy the time invested.

And thanks Dave.I have several stories of this in past years. I’m a big believer in karma, she can be mean but she can be awesome. I would prefer the latter.

Nice catch, Skeet. Glad to hear you could get out. We have had a real string of rotten weather up here in SEPA.

    Nice helmet heads there !
    I’ve always heard ,
If you’re not getting hung up , you’re not throwing where the fish are .
Have to sacrifice a few jigs sometimes, but having a fish break off is another thing unless it wraps .
