I agree with you Ketchn but I’m afraid of them taking it too deep with the smaller sized hook. Some folks use #12 and #14, I just can’t do that unless it’s on a fly and I have no choice. Most of the fish you see in my pics are released so I try to take care of em.

Used to be a 1/64th black beetle. But Alphahawk got me to try trout magnets in bison and that is what I use most of the time now. Beetle still has it's days when it can't be beat though. Both, even at 1/64th oz., catch a surprising number of bass in the early spring along with the targeted big bream.

Don't think flymoron was asking for soft bait suggestions. When it comes to what any freshwater fish bite, the sky's the limit! - including hand ties. Whatever floats your boat. As a lure crafter, I'm just glad I never have to buy lures again (except for Crappie Magnet grubs of course.)I am about to tie some jigs up and need If suggestions and pics if you could, Bluegill are my main target.
If I started tying again, unpainted ball-head jigs can't be beat.
1/32 or 1/28 oz.
hook size: #8 or #6 hook depending on skirt length; bronze normal curve or sickle hook (#4 hook too large)
Guarentee they will catch fish under a float.
Painted heads I've found don't add anything to a lure's effectiveness. Pretty don't impress fish. GMHO
Would like to see some of your creations - especially stuck in fish mouths. You'll do great!!!!

Like many of us, I can go on about what has done well in the past. These days I’m into pretty simple jigs with plastics and hand tied both. Squirrel tail gets a lot of play, both gray and red, and fluorescent yellow Kiptail and an olive micro chenille does very well. While I didn’t tie this one, I’m happy to show it and tell its tale. Tied by Deepfry (Kevin )as a one feather jig on one of my 1/43 #8 jigs. Last Saturday it was officially doing work on my line. As basic as they come but the fish loved it. Just some food for thought. Here’s the pic.
