Light day at work got me home about 1:30 so with the sun out and cooler temps I jumped at the chance to go play. The wind was up some and it had a cold bite to it in the shade. I used a one inch glow curl tail most of the day and they LIKED IT! The fifth cast got taken hard and drag sung and thankfully I had some open water nearby. Palming the spool got me the only control I could muster as he made several strong runs.
After pics he got to go home and the spot lock kept me from fighting the wind non stop. In the next 20 minutes I got hit hard twice, and connected on both occasions for a short time before they said goodbye. I got to see them both, and they were this fishes bigger cousins. Both were 5 to 6 lb class with mouths like a softball. The second one left at about 5’ from the boat. Their runs were impossible to control. My little #8 hook just didn’t get a solid purchase either time. I have to say that if I usually get a LMB it’s 10 to 12” or so. This made todays a larger hoot for me even if I never held them.
All through the trip I was catching small gill varieties but never got a redbreast today. I did get two 8”+ Warmouth though, and I love their fight.
A little further on down the bank I found a few gills. Some were little but a few made the cut and could have become dinner, but everyone got a pass today.
And being as this is a crappie website, and even though none were of the large varieties, I did get one to make honorable mention. He thought he was big.

He even fanned out his fins nice and pretty like. A way better afternoon than being at work. Hope y’all get out soon and stay warm until you do. Til next go around……Skeet
