Before the warm up started I went to a couple of lakes just to check the thickness of the ice to gauge how long before I see open water. There was one spot at one post on the dock that had about a four foot circle of open water so I got down on my hands and knees and reached down to check the ice thickness and a lone mallard drake comes flying out from underneath the corner of the dock scaring the crap out of me. Ice was 3-4 inches thick. Going back today with a rod and see what happens.

Weather when I left the Town pond today was partly too mostly cloudy, 68 degrees .
A nice day to practice casting again .
Today I took a 5’4” St Croix Trout Series rod paired with Shimano 500 FJ and 3# P-line .
I spent most of the almost three hours throwing a drop shot with various baits .
I did make progress today .
I had two bites and hooked up one fish , but with my luck lately , it came unhooked about half way in .
Felt good to finally have something put a little bend in my rod for a change .
We’ve Got rain coming in tonight and tomorrow. Sunday and Monday is supposed to be nice , near 70 on Monday .
Got to love living in the south . If you don’t like the weather , give it 24 hours .
Planning on meeting up with my fishing buddy at the big reservoir. I’ve read online the surface temp is 46 degrees on one sight and 52 on another. I hoping for the 52 .
