Made a visit to our town pond this morning.
Weather was sunny, to partly cloudy and 59 degrees at 10:30 . But it was windy .
Weather on my phone said 16mph sustained with gusts to 29mph .
Started off with a 5’6” Daiwa Trout X AT ULF rod with a Daiwa Fuego LT 1000d rigged with a 1/124th jig with a 1.2” black wiggle wax worm , ice fishing plastic body .
I put a small weighted 3/4” bobber about 18” above the jig .
I caught a couple small gill pretty quickly up off the shallow flat , which was about a foot deeper from the 3/4” of rain we had last night . I was happy to see the rain .
The bite died quickly. I tried a spider fly over a float without any luck after switching to my 6’6” St Croix Premier light .
The float n jig didn’t cut it .
Switched to a drop shot setup and caught another small gill . I didn’t care for the longer rod rigged drop shot , so I switched to the 5’6” Daiwa Trout .
That was the best move . Using a Black Bobby Garland Itty Bitty Swim’R on a 1/80 jighead I caught the three biggest fish of the day . Two nice gills and a decent , beautifully colored redear .
I left around 1:20 with the wind getting worse .
I included the small gill for its purple color .
Drop shot saved the day again .
