    Default Strange catch!

Hit a flood control dam over in WV today. Not the greatest conditions with 30mph gusts but managed two small panfish, a gill and a crappie on a grub under a float. Switched to a small jig, also under a float, picking up a LMB and then came the surprise. Float goes down, solid hookset and then a long drag screamin run. First thought was maybe a good size white bass since I had caught one here last November. After a good long fight finally get a peek-CARP- with that little jig right in the lip. If I had been dragging that jig slowly across the bottom, yea, but 5' under a float in fairly deep very cold water, hard to believe. However, after catching two Buffalo's and a Quillback out of the creeks this year both on slow drifting jigs I can believe it. Just the other day, I was thinking how I regretted not getting out carp fishing this summer, something I have enjoyed my entire life. Oh well, getting off subject here-good time at the lake today.Name: DSC03117.jpg

    Nice mix !
Twice I’ve hooked carp on a 2” curly tail jig thinking I’d hooked into a nice bass .

A good nice mixed bag. Never caught any that I can remember but scale hooked a giant once. Got it boatside and had no net and tried to get my thumb in its mouth to get a pic and it thrashed violently and the jig pulled free. A lot of fish for 4 lb line. They do make some drag screaming runs, legendary.

Yeah they will. First and only one I’ve caught and I didn’t know what the heck I had until I finally got it to the surface. Took forever and didn’t want to come up.

    SuperDave336,
Here's the old school way that I still use. Relaxing in the lawn chair until that marker takes off, set the hook and get ready!Name: DSC01019.jpg

Nice mixture of specimens indeed and I’ve no doubt the carps are among the hardest of fighters on UL gear, Moon.

Size: 84.9 KB. This one came out from under a dock I was shooting. Hit the jig like a freight train and then took off screaming drag. Though it was a cat for sure. Pretty surprised when it came to the surface

That’s about as old school as it gets, moon. Nice setup and fish.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!
