Beautiful gills! Thanks for sharing your adventure
Yesterday, first gill hit a elbow spinner plastic, tried various other plastic baits with no action. Switched to a Boogle Bug popper and scored on a few before leaving. Today, again that popper was the ticket for some nice gills. Pics from both days.

More nice fish. I need a good day with a popper but the river here is so high I can now fish in the woods.

This is how I always do it. I use those round foam spring loaded type, and if I don't have one that is weighted I just put a small split shot right at the bottom of the float, with the popper about 20" down from the float. That set up on a 6'6" to 7' spinning rod for plenty of leverage for a hook and were off to the races.
Those are some nice ones

Nice job. Never thought about using a float as the weight on a popping bug
