It may be your rod. I have heard of guys that like to use rods with guides that stand off the rod further to avoid "line slap". Just a thought???
Went out today for the first time with the Daiwa Legalis. I also tried out 4lb braid for the first time, and casting distance was amazing. Got 8 in total. 4 nice bluegill, 1 smaller one, and 3 small bass.
The good thing is that the reel was also incredibly smooth when retrieving the lure, making it a pleasure to fish a beetle spin with.
What was less good is that when casting, the line would often rub up against the reel and rod, making quite annoying sounds, and possibly impacting casting distance. I'm not sure if this is because the line is so light (0.045 mm, and it floats), If it's an issue with the reel, or a combination of both, so if anyone has had this before, it would be appreciated if you could chime in with advice.

Hmm, that might be the case. It never occurred with the Varivas Ajing Master (2lb), so it might be some interaction between the two. There were a few times where the line definitely hit the reel, as it was a more metallic sound. If I have some time I might change the line again to check if it's the line.

I deal with some line slap also. When braid is new it seems to be stiffer like maybe it has a coating on it. After some use it will soften some and behave a little better. The taller guides will no doubt help also.

Yeah could be. Hopefully it goes away with time. Otherwise I'll switch it up to what I was using before

how did you like the reel?
Reel seems great! Smooth drag, high quality feel, super smooth retrieve. Just not sure whether the line.

CTP, I can somewhat relate to the line rubbing issue, but what is bothering me more is when the line wraps around rod tip if not paying attention and point the rod up. I don't know the different between a braid line (Power-Pro) verses what is Japanese anglers refer to as PE line, however I found it very strong diameter wise. My spool came in with a pre-owned reel a got out of Japan and its my only reel that i pick up when I want to fish braid. Cool reel and catches!

I actually had that issue with lines before this one, so I didn't really mind. I'm used to removing weeds from my lure between casts, so straightening my line has become part of my pre-cast routine. Interesting tip, though, I might check out PE in the future. Think it's very similar to braid.
