Default Always have a plan B

I was back at the town pond this morning armed with a 6’6” light rod ( St Croix Premier) paired with a Carbon X 1000S , loaded with four pound test P-line . And my fishing stool .
My fishing bag had four fly boxes filled with micro jigs and a few weighted floats .
Figured after yesterday, that would be all I needed .
Fished for almost an hour without a nibble .
Dug around in my fly boxes and found a 1/32 jig I tied in a black woolybooger pattern .
I was able to make about 50-60 feet casts without any float .
Finally , as I was about to give up , I got a little tap , but missed the hookup . I threw back in and caught a little largemouth to get the skunk off .
On the next cast , I hooked up a nice looking bluegill.
I thought I had figured them out .
Not another bite in twenty minutes .
Wished I had some small plastics to try . I think they may have worked .
Next trip I’ll have some with me .

That’s how it goes sometimes. But like DSJ said better than a skunk. Always gives you reason and motivation for the next trip.

Don’t know why, but sometimes the jig works better without a float .

We both did about the same, but I think yours were a bit larger than my visitors. I got three that barely made the trip from one side of my hand to the other, 2 good gills and a 9” LMB. Just a fun recharge in the boat that has a little more range than my last one. Those you got were nice, the gill a real good size with an elongated shape. Fish like those always give a good fight. Beats a skunk has already been said but you got an extra. Just getting out and seeing the rod bend and maybe the drag slip a little makes the effort worthwhile. Glad you got out today.

    Default 7-30-22 “ The skunk killer “

I fished the town pond this morning.
I spent an hour or two rearranging and respooling spinning combos yesterday and because I only had an hour to fish this morning I grabbed a flyrod and fly bag as I took off to the pond around 9 .
When I arrived , a family of seven had about half of the shady side covered up and one of my rules fishing and life really , I treat folks the way I would like to be treated.
So I went to the far corner of the dam where the wind had blown all of the slime all morning.
I threw a size 8 woolybooger, hoping to latch into a green trout , but nothing wanted to put a bend in my TFO 6’ 2wt .
I switched over to a floating beetle, trying to coax a gill into biting , before finally tying on one of my sinking rubber legged spiders .
    Nothing .
At the forty minute mark I decided I’d fight the sun and fish around the bridge for my last fifteen minutes I had left .
First cast on the back side of the bridge and I saw my line move and when I raised my little rod to set the hook , I brought back an empty tippet .
Upon inspection, thinking my knot had slipped , the line looked like it’d been cut . Had to have been one of the many turtles that hang out around the bridge waiting for a free meal from the numerous folks who feed them and the geese .
I retied and switched to the front side of the bridge where I tangled my fly on the bridge .
Once on the bridge , and no walkers around I decided to try a few casts from the bridge. ( there’s a sign posted saying “ No Fishing from the Bridge “
I threw up against the bank on the opposite side that I usually fish and hooked into the skunk killer . I nice 7-8” bluegill.
My hour expired and I was about to , fishing in the direct sun . I can’t handle more than about fifteen minutes in full sun .
    One is better than none
