But then I usually do anyway. Snuck out this morning cuz I just don’t sleep late no matter what. Got to the ramp just as the tender opened the gate. Slipped in and got to my desired spot after a short run to find the fish in a non feeding mode. Not having anything better to do I decided to stick it out. I pitched a Bobby Garland baby Shad for a short bit and it got bumped once. Went back to a Bitty slab slayer in double silver rainbow and stuck with it after a couple of changes told me they wanted the flashy minnow looking thing. The sun started getting up and the bite picked up about 7:30 and warmed up nice letting me get quite a few fish and had I kept the good ones, mom and I would’ve eaten well. A few gills came to visit, all of them table worthy and lots of fun. Just about 9:30 the bite got painfully slow and the heat got up enough that I wasn’t having fun anymore so off to the house I went. One of my last fish was the best crappie I’ve caught in a while. Hope y’all get out and find a few.

As you can see, not all were big enough for dinner. The cool thing about the little guys was that I was using my new tiny rod, a custom 4’ 3” featherweight. The hits from the small fish were super light and I felt them with no problem. Great sensitivity. The big crappie came on that rod too and took me a bit to get him to cooperate. As usual, they’re all there for the next trip. Thanks for taking a minute to read this.

It's always fun when your catching. It's more fun to catch them before getting too hot.
