Looking good with either reel and some nice catches.
It being Saturday , I wasn’t sure how busy the dock would be at my local water reservoir, so I got there early (for me) around 9 .
Only two other guys fishing . So I stayed .
I started out at the boat ramp and immediately caught a few small gills , almost on every cast .
I was fishing a sinking micro spider on my Moonlit lunar 2wt . I swapped out the reels for a
lightweight Redington Zero . I’m really liking these reels .
It made the Moonlit a super light gill catching wand.
I caught fifteen total before the crowd started to arrive and I headed home around 10:30 . The biggest was caught on a foam spider .
Two things happened while fishing I just have to share .
One , this guy in a sit inside kayak came in while I was casting around the ramp .
No problem. I shifted my casting away from where he was getting out .
He had been fishing and after he got his truck to load up , took two boxes of worms and dumped them in the lake right where I was fishing and chuckled .
I just gave him a look and asked “really ? “
The other thing was this woman with her dog , on a leash . She had brought some bread scraps with her and would lure a couple of ducks into shallow water with the bread , then turn her dog loose to splash into the shallows after the ducks .
I asked if she was having fun harassing the ducks , to which she smiled and said “YES ! “
There’s some nutty folks in this world we live in .

Like the rod and reel combo. Looks like fun. Now you have my interest peaked for the 2wt.

I've inherited a nice medium sized fly rod I am aching to take out and try on the gillies but don't have a go to lake for them at moment. going to try and use a mayfly looking jig that junglejimjigs made and give it a go whether for crappie or whatever will take it.
your articles are giving me the inspiration to give it a go.

hdhntr, gills and panfish in general are a lot of fun on any size flyrod . Good luck , I hope you find it enjoyable.
I took my new 5’9” Butterstick 1wt to my local reservoir this morning to give it a test run .
I’d read they were a little fast for glass so I loaded a little reel with a 2wt WF line and took a spare reel loaded with a 1wt WF line , just in case the 2wt was too heavy .
Well, just the opposite. I should have taken a 3wt line with me .
Unless I was casting over 40’ , the rod just wouldn’t load the way I wanted it to . It was usable and I caught 11 little gills on it , but I prefer to let the rod work for me , instead of me working the rod .
After about 45 minutes I went home , swapped out reels for a 3wt and headed to the Town pond .
. My first cast next to the bridge told me it was a good move and as a bonus I hooked a nice 8-8.5” gill that put a bend in the one weight all the way into the handle .
I going to have some fun with this little wand .
The bite wasn’t what I hoped and I only caught one medium size shellcracker that came out of the water like a bass .
When I grabbed the line to lift him , he came unhooked and fell in the vegetation next the the edge .
I was able to snap a picture before he flipped mud all over me before I could stand back up and flopped back into the pond .
I hope to meet up with my fishing buddy at the boat ramps at the big reservoir tomorrow and see what I can get in to.

Spent a little over an hour catching 16 small gills on my 2wt Lamiglas and my 1wt Butterstick trying out my new Orvis Battenkill 1 reel .
Nice click and pawl little reel . Nice sound and lightweight.
No more drag loosening up on me .
