    Default Small gill fishing trip

I spent a little over an hour fishing the dock at my closest county water reservoir from the dock .
I’ve been trying different fly lines on my Butterstick, so a different reel this morning.
I think this one will be the one I stick with , it’s an old 4wt Orvis Green mountain entry level line I picked up for cheap a few years back and has been my go to line .
The little gills and redbreast were cooperative and I caught 33 with most of them in the tiny size .I caught one , what I think is a green sunfish hybrid .
But , I don’t discriminate. I enjoy catching them all , especially on an ultralight fiberglass flyrod .

Very nice. That 3rd pic looks like a juvenile warmouth?

That’s what I was thinking , but wasn’t sure if it wasn’t some kind of a hybrid.

Some pretty fish. Glad you got out. I was pulling my hair out this afternoon. I like your day better.

I went back to the dock this morning to play with the little gills and try out my latest acquisition , a 6’6” 2wt Moonlit Lunar flyrod .
A new reel too , a Piscifun Sword ll .
I was disappointed a little in the rod as I was expecting it to be more translucent . It looked more translucent in their pictures .
With a 4wt Orvis GM line it cast great . I usually side arm cast and it does that with ease . Overhead cast are equally easy to do .
Short casts were on the money , as we’re most of my roll casts .
The rod fishes great and has a nice bend even with small gills .
The rod with the Piscifun reel feels a little heavy , probably because I’ve been fishing the Butterstick with the Zero reel lately.
I caught 21 gills in total , in a little over an hour .

Nice setup, gill, and congrats on a nice outing with fish. You are getting me pumped to break out my 3 wgt Orvis.
