    Default Back to the reservoir

I went back to the county reservoir this morning. A beautiful morning, upper 60’s when I left the house around 8:40 . Yep, I’m trying to get earlier with my start time . With mid 90’s expected next week , I need to get adjusted to earlier fishing times .
    I caught 17 , various sizes , all on my 6’3” 2wt. Fiberglass flyrod using a 3wt line . A fun little rod .
I did try the 13 Fishing Omen for about thirty minutes and had several hits on a 1” Slider grub and two hookups, but they both got off before I got them in . One I believe may have been big fish for the day .
What I was most excited about catching , we’re the smallest ones I caught today . Because they were the most colorful.
I think it takes a special skill to catch fish this small on an artificial bait .
    I love catching them all ! .
I’m including a picture of the reservoir from the dock . It’s a beautiful lake . I read it covers 650 acres total .

    Gillchaser,
Those last three are green sunfish, larger mouths and more streamlined body instead of high. When they cross with gills the hybrids can get to a very nice size. The green sunfish are pretty aggressive and fun to catch. Glad you enjoyed your trip to the new lake and those two gills are nice.

Thanks for the fish ID . I thought they were . But also thought they got bigger .
These little critters hide under the riprap and ambush my fly as it passes by . They remind me of miniature groupers , the way they grab the fly and dash back into the rocks .
They fight like they’re ten times their size .
Fun to fish for . And definitely cool looking .

I could get spoiled fishing here . So much cleaner than the town pond , but I think the little park at the ramp gets pretty busy on weekends .
They have a rowing club here and this lake is a kayak and paddle board magnet .

I fished here a good bit when it first opened to the public . Back then I caught a lot of pumpkinseed , but haven’t seen any in awhile.
I’ve got to get my boat out and explore it some more . It a big lake .

Nice looking water. I have a small lake close to the house I go to on occasion to get away from the crowds on Lake Oconee that is loaded with panfish. I love tossing a Boogle Bug on the fly rod there.
