Nice gills!
I had to work for these fish today. Been quite a while since I have gotten into fish this heavy. Much better than what I was getting at Laurel Hill yesterday. Temp ws in low 90's...high humidity and now wind at all. I was bed picking at Bedford Lake. Might only be 2-6 fish on a bed…and there are not many beds in Bedford Lake…I know because I scanned the complete lake….all 41 acres. It took me over 5 hours to get 12 bluegill….but these fish were quality all the way. Fish were 8-8.25 inches. The girth made these fish special. Gave me quite the battle on the Fine Tail Banshee 6 foot Super UL Rod. Lure was either a Bison or Sow Bug colored Trout Magnet on a Daiwa 1.5 gram Gekkabijin jig head with a #8 hook. Line used was 2.3# test Varivas Ester ES 2 with a section of Phantom 2# test FC leader. Life is good and getting better!

Great report and beautiful fish, Randy. Really dark colors on some of them.

Yeah it was hot today. I was very surprised at just how few bluegill beds are in that lake. Water temps were 80 degrees. While scanning I did not mark many fish of other specie either. In the upper end of the lake it is very shallow…..hard rock bottom. Ran upon a couple of beds with only 4 saucers in that hard rock. The biggest bed I found had about 25-30 saucers. If I am still here next year I’ll be checking on the lake a lot sooner than I did this year. I was really surprised at the quality of the fish. No small fish were caught at all. Which I guess could be a good thing. Years back when Laurel Hill was a premier bluegill lake no one ever caught small fish. They have to be there though. The thing about Bedford Lake is it will soon be covered in algae…moss. Gets pretty bad there in the summer.

Those sure were some pretty gills. I wonder if some bigguns have already spawned out on you?
