    Default Fishing the Catch Pool.

Was able to fish the Catch Pool below Normandy Dam today. This time of year one is subject to catch anything in there but if you cast to the left you can load up with the bluegill. Cast to the deeper water to the right and you get trout. Bluegill do not get too large below that dam. But they were big enough to give me a decent battle using the Fine Tail Stream 46 UL rod. Had 60 bluegill and about 25 trout. It is rare to find this spot vacant. I suppose the storms kept folks away. For a number of years I would fish the Catch Pool but it has become so crowded there I usually do not bother. This spot used to give up a couple of 3 pound black nose crappie each year. This wind we are having is keeping me off the lakes. Being an UL angler 15-25 MPH winds are a death sentence when trying to fish 1 gram jigs.

    Regards

Sounds like a cool place, have never caught both those species standing in same spot. Wind has been brutal up here as well, tough on the UL angling for sure. Walleye and trout one day then bluegill and trout the next trip, crazy but awesome to be able to catch fish like that.

It’s a fantastic place in the Spring Stan. But come July it is dead. The area smells like sulfur and the fish are few and far between. For about 3-5 days in the March-April time frame the KY bass will make a run up to the catch pool to spawn. If you can hit that 3 or 4 days they are there catches of 100 KY bass a day are possible. They are in the 14-15 inch range. Then they are gone.

    Regards

Sounds like if you can time it just right , an UL angler can have a blast ! I’d love to get into some spots like that .

Nice day of fishing. I'm itching to get out fishing, just been playing around in my pond a couple of times in the evenings after work.
