    Default Dealing with the wind

Forecast for today is 15-25mph .
Tomorrow is calling for 20-30mph with higher gusts
    Sunday is 10-15mph winds .
I’ve been enjoying fishing a drop shot with a 1/16 weight, but I don’t think that’s going to work .
I’m guessing the float and jig would be best , with timing my casts between the gusts .
At least the wind movement on the surface will work the jig for me .
The float and jig was my favorite way to fish ultralight jigs before discovering the drop shot .
Or I could just stay home . Naa , don’t think that’s going to happen.
    Well, maybe tomorrow.

Jig and float should get it done. Especially when you find a place to break the wind

My experience with a jig and bobber in a strong wind is you not only get the automated jigging from the waves from the wind blowing, but you get movement in the direction the wind is blowin'.

I used to fish a place that you would cast across this outlet when they were pulling water. You let the minnow under a float swing through the current. Went it came to the current seam a crappie would hammer your bait. They were feeding on bait being washed out by the current from the back waters

Unless the sun comes out this evening and stays out , I’ll take my chances tomorrow.
A few degrees warmer and sun all day .
With the wind it feels cold outside to me at 57 .
Might stay home today and tie up some flies and jigs .

Hey Gillchaser, just wondering what stopping you from slipping a 1/8 or even 1/4 oz weight on the mighty St Croix (assuming that’s what you’ll be using)? I would think even in the face of 20 mph wind a 1/4 would still fly a mile…

I thought about using a heavier weight but it’s about losing sensitivity instead of distance.
Side wind blows a bow in the line and I lose control of my fly or jig .

Around five pm the sun popped out and I took off for the pond .
I tried fishing with a float , but it didn’t produce.
Switched to the drop shot with a slightly heavier weight , ( I trim 1/8 drop shot weights , cutting off the bottom of the weight) and hid behind the bridge to catch two and caught two on the other side of the pond , by casting into the wind and working it back with the wind to avoid having a bow in my line .
Caught a couple small ones doing this .
I’ll apply the same methods if I get to go back tomorrow.
A good sensitive rod helps .
Weatherman said highest wind speed registered today at airport , just north of us was 39mph . Said tomorrow May hit mid 40’s .
