    Default Shimano 21 ULTEGRA C2000SHG

My new reel arrived today .
    It’s a looker IMO .
I decided to try it out today with a couple of my St. Croix 4-piece Triumph ultralight travel rods .
With my going through a vehicle change , I’m looking into multi piece rods .
I spooled it up with 2# P-line and grabbed a sling bag of hand ties , jigs and flies .
I started out with an older black travel rod setup with a dropshot rig and spider fly . No takers . I switch to a double spider fly rig under a float . Still no takers .
After an hour , I walked back to the Rav4 and swapped rods to a newer model Triumph travel rod and set it up with a 1/80 woolybooger jig on a drop shot rig .
Got back to the bridge and on my second cast , caught a colorful redear .
In the next hour I caught two small gills and a largemouth bass of about 12” that put up a good fight on the travel rod .
The redear actually put up the best fight out of them all .
I like the reel a lot . It’s not as big as I thought it was going to be and like the shallow spool .
The drag seems smooth too .
Is it any better than my Daiwa Legalis 1000 lt ? Not really . The big difference is the shallow spool .
While fishing today I observed what I think is the reason I haven’t been catching any of the big gills lately .
Three guys using worms were keeping everything they were catching. Even though the pond is supposed to be catch and release only .
As I was leaving , one of them with a stringer with a 6” bass passed me on the way back to my vehicle.
I told him about the catch and release and told him of the location of the signs. He just thanked me for letting him know .
Burns me up , how a few can ruin a small pond for everybody , not give a darn or e en worry about getting caught .
Problems is , the town makes rules , but doesn’t enforce them .

Bummer on guys that won’t follow the simple rules. Ruins it for everyone. That aside, beautiful looking reel and sounds like it performed well. Congrats!

Nice looking reel, I like the colors. And about the other guys, a pic taken while fumbling with your phone might go a long way when questioning a city guy about enforcement. Don’t even need faces, just a pic of the stringer. I’m not a fan of folks like that either.

I hate dirt bags that think they are above the rules. Is this a managed pond, or under the local law/wildlife enforcement, or is it in a subdivision type community? If it is the former, let the authorities know, they get paid on your tax dollars, and they can't do anything about it if they have no idea it is happening. If it is the latter then take it up with the HOA snap a pic of them in the act and shame the hell out of them.

As to the Ultegra, would you buy it again? You said it didsn't really seem any better than your Legalis. I am a big fan of the Regals and just got my first Legalis a couple of days ago. It is an awesome reel, but if I am blindfolded and compare my Legalis/Regals to my Vanford I can dang sure tell one from the other two. The difference is even more appreciated between my Saharas and my Vanford.

Pond inside our town’s recreational park . Walking track , basketball courts , playgrounds, soccer fields , dog walks ,etc.
The pond is only there for folks to feed the ducks , geese and turtles .
Fishermen are on the bottom of the list .
I was really surprised the town made it catch and release only , but that was the result of the Kids fishing rodeo at Founders day being a flop and it was determined a group of out of county folks almost wiped out the fish population.
I wish I knew who I could call that would give a darn about the loss . They make rules , but don’t have anyone to enforce them . The recreation department folks go home at five and don’t work weekends and the violators know this .

About the Ultegra. It’s a super nice reel . I’m totally pleased with it after its first outing .
I don’t know how you can get any smoother than the Daiwa Legalis LT. If it were available in a shallow spool , I’ll be all over it , but right now it’s not available. I have the older model Legalis LT in a shallow spool, but the newer Legalis is nicer .
One thing I don’t like about the Ultegra is what they call the G frame . It crowds my knuckles as I normally grip a reel between my middle and next to pinky fingers . I have to switch my grip after I cast to the gap next to my pinky finger.
The Legalis doesn’t have this issue .
As soon as Digitaka gets the newer Legalis LT in a shallow spool version , I’ll be ordering one .

Nice looking reel, I prefer the shallow spool reels as well. Hopefully the pond will not become over-harvested. You mentioned two piece rods, so much easier to transport they are, just more options.
