    Default New rod day

My 6’ St Croix Premier PS60ULF arrived safely this morning.
A replacement for one of my rods broken due to my auto accident a couple of weeks ago .
We have rain predicted to arrive early afternoon today and rain off and on for the next 4-5 days .
    Such is Spring.
Anyways , I mounted a Shimano Nasci 500 on it and took off to the town pond to try and beat the rain , for a proper sliming .
I had rigged up a mini dropshot with one of my spider flies, hoping to locate a gill or two .
When I got to the pond , the wind was crazy , gusting and swirling . My first cast , I thought got blown across some old bridge posts barely visible under the water. So I quickly got it back in and cast again , a little more carefully.
About a quarter of the way in , I felt the thump and set the hook into what turned out to be a nice gill .
It took over thirty minutes before I was able to catch another , a little smaller gill .
The wind was getting worse , so I tried a double rig under a small float with a BG Itty Bitty shad under the spider , but no takers .
I removed the float and while fishing the back side of the pedestrian bridge , I hooked a small large mouth .
I like the rod , it’ll fit nicely in my rotation.

We got snow right now but should be in the low 70* next week. Can't wait to get out. I will be trying the drop shot too. Good looking rig.

I am becoming addicted to the drop shot . It has become my favorite way to fish . It allows me to use my hand tied flies and jigs , and also small plastics.
    Addicted to the thump !

Congrats on the new rod, gill, and happy you were able to catch a couple on its first trip out. Weather sure is unpredictable right now throughout the country. We have 70(!) degree weather outside right now, but close to a 30+ degree shift coming tonight. I did make it out today, but got skunked. Did explore some new bank fishing spots, however. The new Legalis 1000 is sure a winner, very nice combo with the TSS rod.

Look at that pretty new cork handle…. Only one thing looks better, a new cork handle with fish slime all over it!
