Thread: Never hurts to fish like a kid.

I have been needing to take the Bristol steel telescopic rod out for a short fishing strip. It is a 9' steel rod with 3 guides, an aluminum reel seat and a short cork handle. I paired it with a Mitchell 308 reel with 4 pound Viscous Hivis line. A number 10 hook,a small float , and some very small fly fishing split shot. Considering that the water levels have been up 3 feet due to rains and TVA has done their best to bring it all back down. I decided to see if any bream would be willing to bend a rod. I Found some small bream and some over eager shiners, it felt good to be out in the sun and feel the warmth. Just as when I was a kid. Anything caught made me a happy camper.

So a little digging into the history of the rod. Everett Horton of Bristol Connecticut walked into the bank and much to the bank mans dismay he retrieve his fishing rod from the leg of his trousers. Apparently in that time and place fishing on Sunday was frowned upon. He explianed to the bank man that his did not wish to be told when he could or could not fish. He built the telecopic rod that could be collapsed, put down the leg of ones trousers, and walked out of town to pursue so time fishing. It is said that he told the bank man that he would make them both rich. Horton made rods from the 1880's to the 1930's making them both rich. It gives me cause to smile that I did not own this rod before yesterday morning, I had no plans to go fishing yesterday until after I aquired the rod, seems that rod that was made so one could sneak away and fish on Sunday had me sneaking away to fish on Sunday. Perhaps the fishing spirits were pleased.
