alright guys and gals ... im sixteen years old and i guess you could say ive been fishing all my life cuz my dad used to take me when i was really little we had our own pond i guess thats why but he thinks actually going out fishing is a waste of time ... and time is money in his world.but ive always gone out with my friends and all and usually show them up i guess i just have a natural knack for it.not trying to brag cuz im not that good i just out fish my friends but back to the fishing i have only been taking it seriously for the past couple years. and i hear all this talk about fuul moons and new moons and wind and rain and sun and the list goes on an on an on an on ... i live about 20 mins south east of nashville and weve had a pretty bad drought for the past couple months and i was wondering when the perfect time to go fishing was befroe the rain right ater the rain or during. thats all

oh and just a little info on the moons and stuff would be nice

oh yeah i would love it sooooo much if all you fathers out there can give me some hints on how to get my father to go with me some day cuz i know for a fact he used to love to go fishing ive seen pictures from before i was born but ever since i was born they stop i mean its not like i never ask him to go its just when i do he always tells me he hates to fish and never liked t fish and i know thats not true...http://www.crappie.com/gr8vb3/images/smilies/frown.gif

I like to go fishing before a rain. I have toughed it out and sat there and fished in the rain before. I still will on occasion. But, I hardly ever leave the house if it is raining. After a rain I like to give things time to settle down a bit. Specially if it was a toad choker and my fishing hole muddy's up.

I wished I had some good advice to get your Dad interested in fishing with you. My son is a bit older than you. But, I do remember when he was a little younger than you are now, we grew apart. I was concerned about getting my carreer lined out. He was concerned about running the streets with his buddies. When I did take time, he didn't have the time. Stay true to your passion of fishing. But, give your Dad a lesson in life and do something he may be interested in too occasionaly. Ask him if you can go golfing or what ever his interest is.

The perfect time to go fishing is whenever you can go fishing. I'm not dependent on the moon phase. If my fishing trip happens to coincide with a major or minor period, great. If not, I'll still fish. Do a google search for "solunar" or "solunar table" and you'll get plenty of info on how the moon affects fishing. Bluegill tend to spawn around the full moon once the water temp hits about 67.

I don't think the rain has much effect except on my own personal comfort.

if you had a drought the fish will go deeper try the deep bends in the creeks.
a cool shower in the sumertime adds fresh oxygen to the water and the fish will move shallower to feed on worms and insects being washed in to the water.
the crappie dont like the strong curent so find and eddy out of it.

on a strong rain the catfish usually bite good on riseing water.

    Thumbs up

    Slab seeker,

There is a nice thread in the archives "Who mentored you?" I think you will benefit from reading it. You are quite fortunate to have your dad take you fiiishing and share his love of the sport with you. Anytime you can get out fishing with your dad is a day to treasure.

Fish do bite best right before a frontal passage, four days before or after a full moon, overcast sky days and when you fish your presentation slow. When you think you have slowed down, then slow down some more.

Tell your Dad that if one of you were dying, the one thing you'd miss most is fishing with him. Cruel and inhumane, but in my case it was true.

you may also remind him of all the good memorys you have of you two fishing and you would like him to go again with you, but tell him you would like his expertisein fishingas he always showed you before..am surehelove to go..I just wait for my older son (37 yrs old) to call me about fishingand now Ihave a 13yrold son that doesn't like to fish this year at all!!! He was great at driving the boat on/off trailer and all and really miss him going with me..Life flies past us before we know it!! Maybe even ask your dad about tying knots and all or even ask him about line weight or hisfavorite type of bait..I pray that it helps and you get to enjoy those times again...
My opinion about moons...for what it's worth... nice to be on water at full moon, especially bass fishing!! but I have never done much good crappie fishingduring full moon..love to use minnows day or night..but working on confidence factor with jigs.. good luck fishing and please posts your results!!!
make dad feel like you NEED him or his advice!!!
