    Default Today's pond visit

    Sunny for two days .
And even though it was a little windy, I managed to slip off to the town pond for a little gill chasing .
When I got there , there was a guy in the area of my honey hole , so I walked the track to the dam side of the pond .
    I was using a new rod , a 6’ 2 piece Fenwick Eagle 2 light power moderate action with a Shimano 500 Sienna with 4# p line .
Because the wind I was using a float and jig and caught my first gill , one about 6-7” .
I switch over to the drop shot and discovered the Fenwick isn’t as sensitive as my St Croix Panfish and Trout series rods .
When the other guy left , I stopped by my truck and swapped rods or my SC 5’4” Panfish setup with a mini drop shot.
The sun had dropped a lot by the time I got to my honey hole and the area was shaded . Second cast I caught a 7-8” gill .
I fished for about 30 minutes and caught three . One was in bad shape , I didn’t take its picture , and the other one had some something going on with it too .
I saw one nice gill dead along the dam . Most likely result of bad handling .

Even though the temps were in the fifties , with the wind , I had to cut it short and head home .

Love the color on the St. Croix. Looks like a darker color than they used to be.

A few nice fish and some better temps, that’s a good day. I like the gear you show in the pics.

Hard to beat the St. Croix Panfish and Trout Ultralight line up of rods, caught a ton of fish on the 7ft model. Maybe some of those fish need to be removed from the town pond?

The ones I’d been catching up to this week seemed in perfect health .
Pond gets a lot of runoff from roads and parking lots .
Lot of people walk their dogs around the track and there’s a flock of geese that hang around there and keep the paved walking track full of poop
    .
Businesses in the area are all on septic tanks , so it’s not a pond I would ever eat anything out of .
It’s only been catch and release only for a couple of years .
A couple years ago , the town put a spray fountain and aerators in the pond to try to help.
I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in my truck and clean my hands every time I fish there , before heading home .
