That’s one nice mess o’fish! Good outing!

My high school teacher friend, Biofisher is on Christmas break and wanted to bluegill fish, so we paused our tailwater fishing for Stripers in order to see if some bigger gills could be found and caught. We used Catawba worms that I had frozen for bait and the fish ate them up like candy.
We started fishing between 8:30-9:00 am and the bite was on fire until a little after 11:00 when it completely shut down. At first, we were only catching smaller gills 4-6 inches so we moved away from a very large school that we saw on the graph to deeper water where the fish were scattered, but the size was what we were looking for.
We took home 35 bluegills between 8-9.5 inches long and healthy. I won’t keep one unless it is big enough to fillet and these were perfect. Gary took 20 and I took 15 for dinner. They were great. If I could catch gills like this year around, I may not crappie fish much. Grin.
