It's a bass. The lure was moving.
Either these little dudes have a tiny brain and don't know better or they have no fear of anything! Maybe some of both. Wonder what it is they see to make them think this is a good idea?

I lived on a lake and one day spotted some weird movements next to shore. Upon inspection saw that there were two LMB hopelessly locked together. One fish had captured the other and they were equal in size, at about 12”. The fish being swallowed was missing scales and skin were the others mouth was, and I could see tattered flesh. I was unable to get at them and didn’t wish to wade. Not sure if it was food related or a fight, but it was like watching two bucks with antlers locked.
Maybe they will bite this one……bwilso LIKED above post
I've caught many tykes on lures equal to their length. Goes to show you - fish don't and can't think, they simply react - or don't. The more the merrier when it comes to school fish - just one example of fish not putting two & two together. Heck, if I saw a panicked buddy get hooked and taken, I sure as &^@& wouldn't bite the same lure, but most fish in the school would! When that little bass struck that lure, it was in a bite frenzy same as those school fish busting a gut to get in on the action.
