The reason I was there is usually in mid to late November thousands of 8-8.5 inch bluegill stack up in there. While some bluegill were there the big move has not happened yet. The water in there is 20 feet deep. There are also grates on the bottom that have big openings in them that go another 4-8 foot deep. Crappie many times will be suspended above the grates but sometimes they are down in them..as was the case yesterday. Further down river fish were scattered but plenty of them. One can sacrifice some jigs when fishing the grates but it is well worth it.

That's my favorite alltime place to fish. It's a wonder we've never met as i'm there once a week. The White Bass will show up soon hopefully then the fun really begins. With daylight savings time ending I can only go there on Sundays due to my work schedule. Before it was Sundays and Wednesdays. Glad you had the river to yourself. The big pleasure boats sure can be a pain! Save some for me.

Did you catch any Sauger or Walleye? They are always an exciting plus when panfishing....also the occasional monster Blue Cat and the numerous Drum.

No walleye or sauger…did get about a 6 pound drum on 2# test line though. One day fishing below the island I had to run way up to the backside of the island…a 65 and 75 footer were coming by at full speed. The wake they threw up was huge. Had I stayed where I was at probably would have swamped me. It took about 30 minutes for it to all settle down.

    Regards

As soon as I kill my yearly buck (Lord willin', soon), and get this deer hunting out of my system for another year, I am going to ride up from N Ga and check that place out. I have always loved fishing dams and tailraces, just something about them. I'll bring the Slow Taper Special and the Limber Tip Ss. Maybe I'll run into the Trout Magnet Man hisself!

You’re welcome to fish with me when it gets right. I will check it out again next week. Having a small surgery tomorrow or I’d be back down there. I warn you though I have almost become a fair weather fisherman…LOL. I can take some cold if there is no wind.

    Regards

And not only do the big boats throw up huge wakes, the wakes themselves muddy up the banks so bad that the water is coffee brown for twenty feet out. I know they have the same right to the river as I do but I still call them bad words when they show no regard for fishermen.

If you've never fished there before and need some directions I'll be glad to show you just where the deadlock is. Plenty for all! I release everything anyway.
