    Default School's in Session

Please keep reading, it's not what you think. First fish today hit a ponyhead jig fairly deep. I was not on good footing and lost the fish trying to lift out of the water instead of reaching down for him. Threw that jighead & was gone. The water was pretty flat at this time & when it's like that I'm always lookin for COMMOTION on the surface. Years ago, I thought it was always LMB chasing shad, but at this lake I have found it more times than not to be nice gills doin the chasing of these baitfish schools in deep water. Just have to be lucky enough that they will come into casting range. I try to cast past and come back thru. Strikes are quick and very exciting. The first 3 pics show fish caught casting to these schools. Two using a ponyhead jig/curly tail grub and one on a small spoon/panfish stinger. As I said, if I see that type of commotion going on, I'm on my way. Things calmed down and hit another decent fish deep with the spoon/stinger setup. Thanks for lookin!Name: DSC01200.jpg

Nice fish Moon. I’d be happy with that for a trip. I haven’t walked a bank in a long time. Stinking bugs down here have me nervous. Chiggers are brutal!

    LVS,
I have camera set to auto for ease of use/quick pics and sometimes subjects either appear larger or smaller than normal. I would say that pic is a little generous to him. Have never heard of the vertical bars on bluegills referred to as baby stripes, although there are a lot of factors that contribute and vary fish to fish. Thanks.

    catchNgrease,
That rod is a ESP 5'6" Ultra Lite one piece 1/64-1/16 Oz. 2-4lbs. line For complete info on ESP rod line Norsemenoutdoors.com and click on ESP rods. Can also be purchased at Grizzly Jig. I purchased years ago when they first came out. Write up lists as a great general purpose UL rod for a variety of techniques and I would have to fully agree. Good value and gets the job done. Has micro guides so not good for slip floats. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Almost forgot to mention: I really like the feel of the Tennessee handle on this one.

Very nice fish and insights, Moon. I can see where southern bank fishing could get nasty depending on bank cover. My little creek really requires wading to get to the best spots, and not too often flick off a tick. Hate them critters!
