Had a bluegill slam a large spinnerbait years ago. It was a monster of a bluegill but I still don't know how it got that hook in its mouth
It amazes me how bold and aggressive these little fellas can be. Wanted to share some pics from last weeks trips. I really like the Long Ear Sunfish. In my opinion its the prettiest fish that swims and they are every bit as aggressive as bluegills. Speaking of which, I sometimes bring bluegills home to put in my pond but the bluegill that tried to eat that crankbait got put back into the river. No way i'm bringing home something that mean!

The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
That Longear sunfish is humongous, of course comparing to another longear I’ve seen here. Thanks for the photos!

Bwilso, after submitting my earlier response, I just realized what you had said about this particular bluegill attacking what seems to be a lure resembling another fish. The last outing I took catching these “ micro” gills for the post I was sight targeting them, for the little 2 inchers were way more aggressive in pursuit my lures I would have no chance of catching the 3/4 inchers seen in my post. But what I realized then contrary to the saying-“big fish eat small fish.” these bluegills do not eat one of their own. Maybe the lake full of insects but one after another I would throw these little gills back after a photo-shoot, daze and trying to compose itself, these giants would rushed in to see the surface disturbance but then just swam away, very odd. Then again I’ve never actually see a big bluegill eating its smaller counterparts either. Cheers!

Those Long Ear's sure are lookers, nice pics.
Nice fish! It's amazing how large a lure panfish will hit sometimes.
