    Default Trying out the 1lb-er…

Today it reached 110 degrees by McCarran Int’l Airport by noon. By around 6pm the mercury barely dropped to 106 and I was at the pond which is at the southeast corner of the airport, dock floating jigs, if there is such a name for it. I hit the jackpot on fleabay for not one or three, but 5 packages of Sufix Ice Magic 1lb test line and wanted to see how it will fare on a XUL rod rated for 3 max and also made a friend. Suffice to say the 1lb-er performed very good unexpectedly….only failed once during tying of a jig. Enjoy the pictures!

Thanks Jack, I’m gonna steal Alphahawk’s quote: “ there’s no such thing as small fish, only the rod is too big,”….or something along that line. Lol,. Cheers!

Looks like you had the pond to yourself. Nice UL gear you have there.

That's dedication - fishing in 106 degrees! Congrats on the success and the confidence to use 1lb line. I've never used anything less than 2lb. Set that drag loose!

Ffw, the line is insane thin and like many here have said they have a hard time tying jigs out in the field even with #2 let alone #1. I just want to see for myself why are them “ice” guys swearing by these 1lb-er and catch big gills and trouts ice fishing. Besides isn’t that the point of us being UL enthusiasts…pushing the envelope with these lightest gear and tiniest jigs? Cheers!

BobC, MR, the pond is awesome only problem is that there’s a section roped off for RC boats and it happens to be the deepest end I believe holding those bigguns. Besides no water craft allowed so it doesn’t matter fishing from bank I can’t cast that far out anyway. But I did practically get the whole lake to myself on a Friday evening while lots stuck in traffic getting home from work…and that alone makes 106 feel very bearable. Not stuck in traffic that is

That's what UL is all about! Gonna have to see if I can find some! Lightest line I've found is 2# SOS. Got it at Cabelas near Portland, Ore and last spool they had. Lot of people use 6# line on UL and that just doesn't do it for me.
