Default Beginner Bluegill Hunter. Need Favorite rod suggestions.

I have a cheapie Walmart Rod for gill. I am even confused on baits or lures. I was thinking of using trout magnet baits(name escapes me) and maybe some tadpole spins /beatle spins {1/16 & 1/8- too big ? ) & slip bobber live bait. I'm looking to spend $20 to maybe $80 each for a couple rods to start. I am confused on Quality & Length. Any rod knowledge you care to share with this Greenhorn would be Greatly Appreciated.

    Here’s one option:

    Site Maintenance

The Bass Pro Micro Lite is also good at $60.

BnM’s TCB rod is excellent, but I believe it’s currently not available.

Any small jig will work for gills. The trout magnet is excellent and has a lot of fans on this board.

As for size, I don’t use heavier than 1/32 oz.

They’ll work fine, but they’re kind of expensive. With beetle spins, you get one jig head and three bodies. Trout magnets are cheaper.

If you want to go really cheap, buy some 4” bass finesse worms and cut them into four 1” pieces. Buy a couple packages of 1/32 jig heads, and you’re all set.

You have been Great with all your information. I will definitely buy a B&M after your recommendation and watching a Youtube review by troutmagnetman with your Recom....I love using a quality rod when I fish..Its not the Price but Value of the rod.. $80 divided by 8 years = $10/year. Pus it should have some value if I ever sell it. I really appreciate the knowledge shared on this crappie board. Have a Great and Safe Summer on the water..

The TCB rod would be my choice as would the trout magnets along with SOS line no bigger than 4#. Hooks would be no bigger than a #6 . I use a president # 25 reel on this rod. Really a nice setup that will make for some fun days of fishing.
