This is what I been catching for five weeks now -- coppernose bluegill. They are a hoot to catch, all of them are big. This one is probably close to a pound. I released it and some bigger ones. They are bedding and if the fish has eggs, a fat belly, I let 'em go even if I am keeping some to eat. I usually keep about six cuz I don't dread cleaning them if it's only six, plus, 12 fillets makes a good meal for two or two meals for one! The biggest I have caught weighed 1.2 lbs and was 11 inches. I catch them on Trout Magnet jigs. They are a great 'fight' on UL rig. Lately, catalpa black/green has been the best color. I have caught them every single trip (about 4x/wk) except two days ago, they did not bite! I don't know what happened! On most casts, I catch one. I catch several or maybe a dozen or two that I release and then leave them alone. I probably have close to a dozen beds located. I sometimes catch a bass on the beds while bream fishing. Biggest has been 4.8 lbs. And that is on a tiny Trout Magnet!
