I rarely use it for bream, but it does work. Almost any fish will take bread.
I was just wondering anyone had luck fishing dough and bread baits on bream. Bream around my parts seem to like meat the best. But it will be May sometime before the black soldier flies start mating.

Used to use it fishing for carp a bunch of years back, never used it for gills. Caught my share of carp.

Bread works for gills. I use a tiny bread ball on a #12 hook to catch smaller gills when I want some cut bait for catfish.

What we found best was pillsbury buttermilk biscuits. Don’t open the can, but take your pocket knife and make a small hole in the end. You might need to fine tune the size of the hole til it’s right. The pressure inside keeps it squeezing out slowly, distributing a new doughball about when it’s needed. Also,it’s kind of stringy. Instead of squeezing it on the hook as done with bread, I hooked the dough and then wrapped the rest around the hook til it was a tight little wad. Best we ever found. And we used the 5 biscuit half packs instead of the full roll.

one slice of bread each afternoon has kept me almost sane this past year, largest bluegill is 11.25 inches and a lot of golden shiners. fun on a sz 8 cricket hook with no barb on 2 or 3# line. Have fun --shu
