spots like that can be load of fun on light tackle!
creek , you know the one that has ankle deep water and no fish in it but a few minnows .
might have a hole about 4 foot deep up in the woods where you cant cast in the jungle of vines and underbrush about 20 feet long that is flat out full of sunfish ....
wife and my little and me grabbed a few small grasshoppers before we got there and i casted due to the level you need to be at to get a bait up in there and they set the hook along with me until we ran out of grasshoppers
fun stuff no doubt about it ....

Just the spot for light tackle! Looks like you had a trusty spincast!

I’ve had some. Rey good days and never caught a fish over 6” long. It’s not always about size. How does that go, it not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog? That applies here.

You need to get you a fly rod! I recently had a similar adventure that involved 4-6” brook trout. A ton a fun!
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
the 5 footer was pretty much to long for where we went my friend , a fly rod would a been tough stuff . of course i could have used one like a cane pole i guess and stuck it up under the overhang instead of trying to cast parallel to the water surface .
i used to hit native brookies in a really tiny creek . they are fun and super alert fish and darn tasty rolled in flour salt and pepper and fried in butter in a cast iron over an open fire , minus just their heads ....mmmmm made me hungry thinking about it
