Looks like he might have been used for catfish bait but got off
Caught this guy yesterday. Looks like he may have been used for bait at some point. I’ve used small gills and put the hook right under the dorsal before. I’m thinking this guy escaped and lived to tell the tale.

That is exactly what that looks like! A lot of anglers run limblines for big Flathead on my home lake. I see sunfish like that from time to time as well.

survivor no doubt ,but quite possibly a cormorant wound , fish often have this type of wound when they escape that mean ole big hook beak .
food for thought , i see lots of fish with very similar wounds ,especially crappie and I am pretty sure they were never on a limbline or trotline .
