Default First day with fireline 2lb

Finally got off my whatever and bought a spool of Fireline Crystal in 2lb test. Spooled it up on a President 6925 and put it on my 6’6” airwave rod. The reel I took off had some Sunline Troutist wild in 2.5lb that was amazing for casting and fighting good sized fish. The Crystal didn't get the distance that the troutist did, but that was expected. It also didn't match the Nanofil 2lb I use on other rods, but that isn’t a fair comparison yet. All of these type of lines soften to some extent after use and this had just a hint of a memory in it that I’m confident will go away after use. It is far tougher than the Nanofil and I had no issues with my regular knots, double uni to join my leader for example. Casting was acceptable at about 80 to 85% of my Nanofil distance, now the standard I compare everything to. Fish were almost not cooperative today and very tentative on the bite and I don’t feel that I missed any due to the little bit of memory. Overall I’m satisfied and look forward to further testing in times of more fish activity. Maybe tomorrow, who knows. Thanks for the visit, hope this helps someone......Skeet

I have tried that line, and it will get a little better with use. I do not know if you vertical jig any deep structure(17-24ft straight down) but on a tight line straight down with that line is awesome, can feel the fish suck the jig in then Kaboom, set the hook and snatch them out quick.

Thanks for the report. I tried the 3 lb Fireline Crystal for the first time today. Just fished for about 30 minutes and only caught a few with it. Looking forward to getting more familiar with it.

The line will get softer and easier to use the more time you have with it... hopefully both of you end up liking it...

Small sample size but so far I like it. Changed out from a copolymer line. Seems like I could feel even the small tail wiggles (and not just the head shakes) of the fish I caught.

I was lucky enough to tie into some good sized crappie and gills today. Talk about being connected to the fish and enjoying the ride! Hope you snag some more on your 2 lb line soon.
