Can't say I have ever caught any.
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
They are common here in SC. A friend's pond has a nice population. I asked if he stocked them. He said he only stocked Bluegill, they were native to the stream that feeds the pond. Also has some really nice crappie that he also didn't stock.
They are similar enough to other Bream type panfish that many folks lump them all together, not realizing there are several species of " Bream".

Don't believe I've ever caught one. Apparently there are some around, but if I've caught them I didn't realize what I had.
That is a beautiful bunch of fish.
One thing that jumps out at me when identifying this fish is the large anal fin. It's much more pronounced on the Flier than Bluegill and similar panfish.

They are a beautiful fish. How are they for table fare? We have nothing like that in Pa.

Taste like chicken. Very much like Bluegill and other panfish. Mixed together I doubt you could tell them apart.

I’ve never heard of them before either, what are they and I know this going to sound stupid, but why are they called fliers?
Here’s my sign- do they fly?
