    Default The Hunter was hunted

You know some folks have predator instincts like other animals . That said I probably fall into that category when I get all focused on a prey item myself .
So there I am playing with the creek bluegill and ketching them well and playing with them lightly . I let them get really frisky and pull and splash and give it the best they got for the size they are . Take a photo on the prettier ones and drop them at my feet in the water near the rocks i am on .
So after 20 or so I thought did that rock just move out of the corner of my eye near me ?
Sure enough i focused my eyes a bit on that area closer and low and behold I am being very quietly and patiently STALKED by a whopper snapper !
Sure enough every sunfish splashing caused it to advance on my position and after it got about a rod length away i thought …..oh what the heck why not ….
    Lets rodeo BIG BOY ….
So the next sunny in got to toy around and entice a strike from said snapper and let me just say this , I knew they were fast , but to be sure it happened so fast it was amazing .
The entire fish disappeared when it struck and it turned and ran with it !
So it became a serious tug of war for a good bit and then about when i thought I might video this event , the dino turtle said that is quite enough and spit said sunny right back at me ….
and that is my fishee/turtle story yawl .
    KABOOM is the word btw

Those boys are hard to get up once they hunker down on the bottom. I used to fish for them out of our farm pond. They had taken over the pond.

    Nice pics as always. Kaboom!!!

They sure are fast and seem to always be in a foul mood. I remember guys use to specialize in catching them in the Delaware River above New Hope PA. Huge hooks, salt water rods and hotdogs for bait. They sold them to a couple of local restaurants for turtle soup! Sometimes on the Neshaminy Creek you will see a duckling in the line disappear in the blink of an eye.

That’s cool! I have caught a few softshells and they feel like you are pulling in a huge fish. I have never caught a snapper.

when I was about 12 or 13 I lived in Pennsylvania and used to fish for carp in a huge pond that was used for ice skating in the winter .
it had a large duck population in it and between the one footed big ducks and the duckling groups that went away day by day I often wondered who was doing that to them poor ducks .
an old timer told me it was a monster snapping turtle which I thought was just to scare me , until one day I foul hooked that there monster snapper in the foot and fought with it for half a day to land it . man was I in the news and mean REALLY , the local newspaper came out and took photos and I was the hero for removing that menace from the duck pond and then the local French food place contacted me and paid me what I thought was BIG money for it and even invited me to have a bowl of soup they made with it .
it was VERY tasty and I used to money to buy more tackle of course
p.s. haven't killed a turtle on purpose since btw
